is making a gif with the photoshop “transparent” background like painting on a palette? like some sort of “releasing a finished product on the surface of tool used while the product is still unfinished” sort of thing?
Haha jesus
Okay here’s how net art works
- Take an outdated web design trope
- Take a limitation of graphics rendering technology
- Put them together, maybe add a sprinkling of warped pop culture signifiers
Just like what every other post tim and eric tumblr teen does, except those kids intend their juxtapositions to be viscerally funny. and not some ugly rough draft masquerading as cultural anthropology / clinical commentary on web aesthetic

dunno about other people, but i use it as a way to say “hey, this was going to be transparent but drop shadows/semi-transparent things don’t seem to do well when converting to gif. or what you said.
